Thank you

Posted By Thomas P. Sutula, Tuesday, May 12, 2020

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the ASENT Program Committee and Board of Directors, I’d like to thank everyone who participated in the ASENT2020 Annual Meeting on March 2-5, 2020 at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda.  We feel fortunate and grateful to have had the opportunity to meet prior to the escalation of COVID-19 and recognize the fact that many similar events have been cancelled or postponed.

This year’s Annual Meeting was a resounding success and had the highest attendance on record, with hundreds of colleagues from academia, government, industry and advocacy joining together to discuss the latest in discovery and development of neurotherapeutics. Thank you to our attendees, speakers, industry partners, and poster presenters who participated in making ASENT2020 such a great success.

The ASENT Annual Meeting is unique in that it brings together a cross-section of the neurotherapeutics community, enabling regulators, academic neurologists, researchers, industry partners, advocates, junior scientists, and others to facilitate dialogue and connections across all areas of neurotherapeutic discovery and development. These interactions are essential to the process of moving neurotherapeutics forward.

We have included photos from the meeting on the ASENT homepage. Also, we will be sharing content and video presentations from the meeting shortly; please look for an email from ASENT to access this content.

Thank you to our excellent faculty who presented on topics across the spectrum of CNS. Sessions such as “Gene Therapies for Neurodegenerative Disease: Development and Regulatory,” “Evolution of AAVs for Widespread Gene Delivery to the CNS,” and “Tremor, the Most Common Movement Disorder,” were particularly well-received and highly-rated by attendees. This year, we also debuted a new Pipeline Presentation format, where more than 20 top abstracts were discussed in dynamic 5-minute presentations.

Other special events, such as the Careers in Neuroscience dinner, the Tuesday night dinner presentation by Joe Moskal, Northwestern University, and the poster receptions were opportunities for attendees to come together to hear from and connect with colleagues. The Training in Neurotherapeutics Discovery and Development for Academic Scientists course students and faculty also participated in these engaging events. We would also like to give special thanks to our esteemed Japanese Society of Experimental Therapeutics (JSNT) colleagues who participated in the meeting.

In order to make future Annual Meetings even more successful, we ask that you complete the ASENT2020 post-event evaluation.

As you might expect, plans are underway for ASENT2021, currently scheduled for February 22-25, 2021, in Bethesda, Maryland.  We highly value the health and safety of our members, speakers, and Annual Meeting participants and continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic. We will provide updates in the next few months. The Board and Program Committee are hard at work developing the program.
