- Annual Meeting
Welcome to ASENT Member Stories
ASENT members, are a diverse community of leaders in academia, government, advocacy and industry who work together to facilitate the process by which new therapies are made available to patients with neurological disorders. Because ASENT members come from such different backgrounds, each member experience is unique. However, there are common threads that connect these varied constituents. We invite you to read member stories and share your own.
John Richert, MD
I initially joined ASENT when I was in academia and my main interest in the Society was related to its journal, Neurotherapeutics. I eventually became a member of its editorial board. With this level of involvement I became aware of the excellent scientific presentations at the annual meeting and this then also became a focus of my interest.
When I transitioned to industry, two additional strengths of the Society became important to me. One was the aspect of the annual meeting that promoted interactions among holders of intellectual property (largely from academia and small pharma/biotech) with investors (large pharma, venture capital, private equity, angel investors). From the business development side of pharma, this became exceedingly important to me. Secondly, the prospect of interacting both formally and informally with representatives from the FDA and NIH provided opportunities at conversation that just aren’t available anywhere else.
All of these are reasons why I have maintained my ASENT membership for over a decade.
