What % of physicians in the US are engaged in research, what would you guess, 30%, 20%, 15%?
That number is 15%, according to Alyssa Browne at AAMC in JAMA Network Open
who surveyed close to 6,000 US physicians in 2022. But furthermore, of this 15%, the vast majority spent less than 10% of their week on research. Only 2.9% of physicians in total spent more than 5-6 hours a week on research activities and <1% spent more than 20-30 hours a week on research.
Does that surprise you? Maybe it shouldn’t.
Would creating communities and forums for physicians who want to be engaged in research make a difference? To support them through the scientific, financial, and administrative challenges they face, and to foster the broader collaborations that bring forth new treatments for patients?
